The Mango Tree Q&A

After recently announcing our partnership with The Mango Tree, we wanted to put together a blog to answer some common questions which is helpful information for our supporters to know.

We are so excited about our partnership with The Mango Tree, and are looking forward to seeing the incredible results we can achieve by working together. Partnerships like this offer a great solution for many charities as they can increase efficiency and impact, and mean more funds can go towards our overseas projects. They can strengthen governance, operational knowledge, and networks without compromising core values.

  1. Why are the charities partnering?

Kids Club Kampala and The Mango Tree have begun the process of partnering to increase our collective impact.

Over the past few years, thanks to your support, we have been able to build strong, stable foundations in our organisation. When we were approached by The Mango Tree, we knew it was a great opportunity to expand from our solid foundation and life changing impact for even more vulnerable children living in East Africa that need our support.

We are so glad to be able to assist The Mango Tree with the closure of their UK offices by helping them fulfil their promise to provide free education to vulnerable children in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. We are delighted to support locally led and managed organisations to become more independent and sustain local leadership.

Together, we are seeking ways to leverage our combined expertise, resources, and on-the-ground presence to help The Mango Tree honour their promise and continue their legacy as we support The Mango Tree Kenya with the delivery of their comprehensive programmes that address the diverse needs of vulnerable children in the Homabay County, in western Kenya.

  1. When will this be happening?

The Mango Tree UK office will officially close on 1st April 2025. This time frame allows for a smooth transition period which will ensure the most efficient partnership going forward. During this time the old trustees will be stepping down in time for the new financial year and several Kids Club Kampala trustees will be elected onto The Mango Tree board.

  1. What will happen to my donations after the partnership?

Your donations will continue to support children and families in Kampala. Our partnership with The Mango Tree will not impact the support you provide, and we will ensure funds from our supporters are allocated as specified.

  1. Will the mission or focus of the charity change?

The core mission and values will remain the same as they have always been. Our mission will continue to be supporting vulnerable children by providing for their immediate needs and strengthening their futures. You can read more about our core values here.

  1. Can I choose to support a specific programme or project?

Of course! As a supporter you can specify if you want to restrict your donation to support a particular programme or initiative.

  1. How will the partnership affect the administration costs?

One of the goals of the merger is to reduce administrative costs by streamlining operations. This partnership will increase our cost efficiency by closing The Mango Tree UK office where the Kids Club Kampala UK office will be taking over all administration and overseas partner relationships. This efficiency will allow a greater percentage of donations to go directly towards our work on the ground.

  1. Will there be new leadership or staff changes?

No, the Kids Club Kampala UK team will continue as it is. This partnership involves The Mango Tree team stepping away as their UK office closes, which means the Kids Club Kampala team will be taking on The Mango Tree’s programmes.

  1. How can I stay informed about the progress?

The best way to stay informed on the progression of this partnership is by signing up to our monthly newsletter. By doing so you will receive regular updates straight to your inbox! You can sign up to our newsletter here: Join our Newsletter | Kids Club Kampala

  1. How can I be sure that the charity will be effective in achieving its goals?

Our core values are passion, ambition, responsiveness, gratitude and most importantly transparency. We are committed to ensuring our donors understand the impact of their support, and continue to hold ourselves accountable to this. Our supporters and The Mango Tree’s supporters will receive regular updates which include our annual reports, quarterly impact stats and full access to our accounts. We will continue to measure and report on the impact and efficiency of all of our programmes, and welcome feedback from our supporters to help us maintain and improve our standards.

  1. Where are the projects based?

The Mango Tree’s programmes work across East Africa in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda and Tanzania where they have collectively supported over 257,000 people. They focus their investment in countries and regions which have been hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic.

  1. Will your name change?

In short, yes! We are looking to change our name in the coming year to better represent the scope and impact of our work. As our valued supporter, we want your input and feedback. We will be sending out a donor survey in the new year and would be delighted to get your input - please subscribe to our newsletter to find out more and be involved.

  1. Do I need to do anything differently with my donations?

No, you don’t need to do anything in relation to your donations and support to Kids Club Kampala. Our partnership with The Mango Tree will not impact the support you provide.
