Charity Christmas Presents - Give the gift that gives twice

Updated: 3 days ago

As we approach the Christmas season, many of us begin shopping for the perfect gifts to show our loved ones how much they mean to us. This year why not choose to shop sustainably through buying charity Christmas gifts?

In this blog I will be discussing why charity shopping matters, how you can make a difference this Christmas, and why Kids Club Kampala is an ideal place to find a gift that gives twice.

Why shop through charity?

Choosing charity Christmas presents not only benefits the projects you support on the ground, but also offers a meaningful way to make a positive impact in the world. By shopping through Kids Club Kampala, your Christmas presents can go even further, as each gift contributes directly to transforming the lives of children and families in Uganda.

Your gift also helps raise vital awareness of the cause you are supporting, and gives your friends and family a gift they couldn’t find anywhere else. Charitable Christmas shopping promotes mindfulness—considering the impact of your purchases on communities around the world. This doesn’t mean compromising on quality; instead, you’re selecting gifts that reflect your values and offer lasting joy to both the recipient and the communities who receive your support.

How your Christmas shopping can make a difference

Imagine giving a gift that not only brings joy to your loved one, but also makes a real difference in someone else’s life. This is the philosophy behind “giving a gift that gives twice”. When you shop through Kids Club Kampala, each purchase supports children and families in Uganda, empowering those living in slum communities.

At the end of an alleyway in Mulago slum, Sonya, her daughter Amber, and granddaughter Rebecca work together sewing clothes and making crafts. They’re part of the Afaayo Women's Group, which began over 10 years ago to help women in Mulago earn an income and support their families.

Originally, the group was a simple gathering, but today, 13 women make a wide range of high-quality items like laptop bags, aprons, and paper bead jewellery using vibrant Ugandan prints. Their crafts are now sold internationally through local craft sales in the UK, (if you would like our crafts at your Church, workplace or community event feel free to get in touch at fundraising@kidsclubkampala.org).

Skills and knowledge are being passed down through generations, as Rebecca, inspired by her mother and grandmother, now contributes her own crafts to the group.

With each charity gift you buy, you’re directly contributing to creating a brighter future for those in need. By choosing gifts that give twice, your loved ones will receive more than a present—they too can feel part of a positive movement for change.

3. The Kids Club Kampala shop

When you visit the Kids Club Kampala online shop, you will find a selection of Christmas cards, alternative gift cards and paper bead bracelets.

Did you know that each bead on our paper bead bracelets is hand rolled around a fine needle? Each bracelet takes an average of 2 days to make!

This year's brand new Christmas card was designed by children on our free early education project. For just £4.50 you can get your hands on a set of 10 Christmas cards that give back to the communities our programmes serve.

Another way to support communities in Kampala is through our alternative gift cards, which are the perfect gift for your hard-to-buy-for family member. Starting at just £5 you can offer children in Kampala 5 meals, or a school equipment set, or even a 6 month supply of period products!

This Christmas, you have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact with every gift and card you give. By giving your loved one a gift from Kids Club Kampala, you’re not just giving a present; you’re investing in a better future for children, families and communities in Uganda.
