At Kids Club Kampala, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our holistic approach focuses on meeting immediate needs like child protection and community development whilst strengthening futures through education and vocational training. Our core work includes community outreach, protecting, educating, and skilling programmes, working together with communities to support vulnerable children and their families, helping them thrive instead of just surviving.
Thank you for all your generous support throughout the past year, which has been instrumental in enabling us to extend our outreach to even more vulnerable children and families.
Community Outreach
Our Community Outreach Programme is where children and families in Kampala might first find out about the support that Kids Club Kampala can offer. Through this programme we can also identify those most in need of our support through working with community leaders to establish projects to aid communities, increase social cohesion, offer safe spaces for children to meet and play, and provide for immediate needs.
861 children have regularly attended our weekly Saturday Kids Clubs.
64 boys have been regularly attending our Football Project, where 64 field training sessions have been conducted.
696 vulnerable girls have attended our counselling sessions.
2,386 period products were distributed to girls who would otherwise go without.
“I thank Kids Club Kampala so much because it has done a lot in our community. Before you came to us, there was lack of education, early pregnancies and abortions, and most girls couldn't afford period products, but now everything has changed. They provide sanitary towels for girls every month and there are reduced pregnancies and abuse due to guidance and counselling. I have also achieved a lot and have gained a lot of respect in my community through volunteering with Kids Club Kampala."
Child Protection
The Protecting Programme combines a community-based abuse prevention approach with emergency responses to safeguard children in imminent danger within 10 slum communities in Kampala.
14 child protection cases have been responded to by our 42 community safeguarding officers.
9 children have been rescued from abuse and/or abandonment this year so far.
84 children are currently staying at the Ewafe Project home receiving love, care and protection.
14 children have been reintegrated back into families through kinship care.
15 children who have been successfully resettled have been provided with school sponsorship and 6 families provided with income generation support.
“We put announcements on TV and in the newspapers in search of our child but after a long time, we gave up. I thought she must have died. But God is so kind to us that He protected our child. Thank you Ewafe project for keeping her safe and for reuniting us back together. I am overjoyed.”
“I have been sick with worry ever since I knew that my child got lost. I was even hospitalized due to stress and I wanted to die, I had lost hope that I would ever see my daughter again. But thank God that my child is safe and sound. Thank you Ewafe home, may God bless you abundantly”.
Access to Education
Our Educating Programme gives children the opportunity to learn through receiving a regular, high quality education.
This includes our Encouraging Education Project, which offers a free education to 3-6 year olds across 3 communities in Kampala. It also includes our Child Sponsorship Project, which matches children with Child Sponsors who pay their school fees.
90 children have been attending our Encouraging Education Project every day for the past year.
90 children have received nutritious meals daily at our education centre.
17 new children were enrolled onto the Child Sponsorship Project, taking our total number of sponsored children for 2024 to 176.
“How would my grandchild have accessed a good education without your help? He would not be able to go to school, I barely feed them all. My heart is full, and my hope is renewed, you have given us hope.”
“Kids Club Kampala has seen me through my education since primary level until graduation with a certificate in Computer Science. I have received guidance and attention every step of the way. I hope I can extend the same kindness someday.”
"My granddaughter is given a healthy meal every day, I can barely afford a decent meal for all my grandchildren. She is always happy as I pick her from the education centre and always tells me stories from her class including which meal Aunt Lillian (KCK cook) prepared for them that day.”
Family Strengthening
Our Skilling Programme offers free, vocational training and business skills to parents to help them generate income for their families. Through tailoring, knitting, carpentry, and business skills training, graduates gain new skills and are able to generate a secure income, lifting themselves and their families out of poverty.
132 individuals have taken part in our tailoring and knitting skilling courses.
79 students have received business training and business support.
12 young people have been studying on our carpentry training course.
“When my husband passed away, I was so stressed and depressed. I tried but could not find a job. My neighbour told me about KCK’s skilling programme. I acquired sewing skills first and then came back for knitting skills. Immediately after graduating, I got a job as a tailor at a company that makes reusable sanitary towels. My life has changed very much since then. I am paid well, I have been able to send my kids to school and I can now take care of my family. I have also gained more experience, confidence, and friends.
Without your support, none of this would have been possible. Thank you."
Looking ahead, we plan to scale up our programmes in existing communities and expand services to reach more communities in need, increasing the depth and reach of our impact.
Scaling up our child protection programme: Child protection will remain central to our mission as we work to reduce poverty. We aim to enhance preventative child protection efforts, supporting families in crisis, rescuing children, and providing emergency interventions. We will also address the root causes of poverty through education, income generation, and community safeguarding.
Expanding our skilling programme: In the new year, we plan to open a skilling centre in another Kampala slum community, offering courses in plumbing, electricals, hospitality, and IT. Over the past year, we have successfully supported graduates with investments to start their own enterprises and will continue this effort.
Strengthening project monitoring and evaluation: We have been improving our project M&E processes and building capacity within our Uganda team. With a developed logic model and theory of change, we will continue investing in training and organisational development to strengthen strategic planning.
Exploring partnerships: In 2025, we will partner with The Mango Tree Trust to increase our collective impact. This collaboration will allow us to expand from our solid foundation to support more vulnerable children across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
Thank you so much once more for your continued support. I would be delighted to speak with you about our future plans in 2025, so please do get in touch if you have any questions.
With very best wishes,
